Jaco FAQ's

Q: What is the difference in foam between JACO and BRAND X?

A: JACO uses only the highest quality foam sheets from around the world, to produce our tires. We always incorporate the “freshest” rubber in our tires to ensure quality & performance. Since we laminate, cut, true, and grade the foam in house we have total control over the production process. We do not buy “donuts” from other manufacturers, we produce all our tires on state of the art computerized machines to ensure consistency….

Q: Are Nitro Shoes just for Nitro cars? Can it be used on electrics on carpet?

A: Nitro Shoes were designed especially for Nitro racing, the compounds provide excellent balance on a nitro sedans to maximize performance and minimize wear. We would not recommend Nitro shoes for Carpet racing…

Q; Any tips to prevent chunking?

A: Truing the tires down to a smaller size can minimize chunking; this creates a lower sidewall, which reduced sidewall “flex”. Using the “firmest” tire that track conditions allow also helps the firmer the tire, the less likely they will chunk. After you true the tires there will be a square edge, this can catch and cause you to chunk or traction roll. It is super important to nicely round the edges of the tires. Most importantly is to stay off the board while racing and avoid wrecks.

Q: What is the best size to start the tire off at? (Nitro and Electric)

A: There is no “perfect size” However most racers like to run their tires between 2.40” and 2.25” Foam tires will “search” for their optimum diameter if left untrued. They will wear very fast until around 2.35” to 2.30”. Then the wear decreases dramatically as the tire is in its optimum diameter, at this optimal size the tire is its most efficient state, you will get many runs at this size. Carefully monitor the wear to be sure your ride height is not to low. (Roar minimum for carpet is a 1/8"

Q: What is JACO’s recommended starting point when you get to a new medium bite club track? (Electric and Nitro)

A: Jaco's recommended starting points:

    1/10 Nitro Touring (Nitro Shoes)
1/10 Touring car     3040- (front)
2159- Purple/orange (Front)   3140- (rear)
2155- Purple (rear)

1/12 Carpet         1/10 Oval
2325- Purple   (front)   2129- Black (Right Front)
2345- Grey (rear)   2128- Grey (Left Front)
    2145- Grey (Left Rear)
    2144- White (Right Rear)

Q: Are all compounds interchangeable with various companies? “Purple” from Jaco the same as a “purple” from brand X?

A: Tire Compounds that we offer are not necessary the same as other tires on the market. This is true with the color-coded identification “dots” However, Nitro Shoes use industry standard foam and durometer rating system.

Q: Is there a difference between front Nitro shoes and rear Nitro Shoes? Can I use front on the back and visa versa if the compounds are the same?

A: Nitro Shoes are available in front and rear compounds. Even though the durometer number may be the same. The rubber is completely different. The durometer numbers reflect relative hardness among similar tires in the same foam family. The difference includes cell-structure, wear resistance, bite and price. Fronts have less bite but better wear. Rears have much more bite and slightly higher wear.

Q: What traction compound do you recommend for Jaco tires?

A: Most compounds on the market work very well, instead of recommending one we subject that you use what ever is most popular at your club. Carpet will tend to “soak” up compound and for that reason the most popular compound used at the track will have a higher rate of traction.

Q: After you true is it better to leave a sharp edge or should you round the tire? And how much?

A: After you true the tires there will be a square edge, this can catch and cause you to chunk or traction roll. It is super important to nicely round the edges of the tires
